Water down your bill with a low-flow showerhead

Did you know your shower use accounts for roughly 30% of the average water bill? Although the shower is the most significant contributor to your water bill, it’s also the area where you can easily cut costs to your water (and electricity) bill without reducing your time in the shower. All you need to do is install a low-flow showerhead.

What’s a low-flow showerhead?

A low-flow showerhead can maintain a solid shower pressure as it pulls air into the water stream to give the same full-pressure feeling while using much less water.

Benefits of a low-flow showerhead

  • A good low-flow shower head can decrease water consumption by 40% without compromising water pressure.
  • A low-flow showerhead could also cut your water bill by $150 per year.
  • Showers installed in the last ten years should have a low-flow showerhead. Unsure if you have one? Take a minute or two and do the low-flow showerhead test.

To test the water efficiency of your showerhead, all you need to do is fill a 10-litre bucket with warm water under the shower in less than a minute. If full, your showerhead is wasting water. An efficient showerhead has a flow rate of up to 9 litres per minute.

Did your showerhead fail the test?

No worries. There are many low-flow shower head options to suit all budgets from $150. You don’t have to go to Timbuktu to get one, as you can easily pick one up from your local hardware or plumbing store.
